The RYA Advanced Powerboat course is aimed at the more experienced powerboat handler. Run over 2 days and a night (night exercise), the RYA Advanced Powerboat course as well as being challenging and fun also focuses on the role of a skipper on a powerboat.
How can I take this course?
The practical course is taught on our 7m Ribcraft rib , Swiss T. The classroom course is taught in the Mendez Marine Office.
These courses run between September and April due to the night element.
Candidates should be competent to the standard of Intermediate Powerboat.
Candidates should have a thorough knowledge of navigation and chart work to the level of Coastal/Yachtmaster shore based certificate and it is strongly recommended to hold a 1st aid certificate and a VHF operators licence.
2 days: day 1 – 10am – late, Day 2 – 9am – 5pm

Preparation: passage planning, meteorology, safety and the skipper’s responsibilities. Boat handling and manoeuvres: high speed handling, pilotage by day and night, emergency situations including search patterns, awareness of chart plotters and Radar.
