The RYA Advanced Powerboat course is aimed at the more experienced powerboat handler. Run over 2 days and an evening (night exercise), the RYA Advanced Powerboat course as well as being challenging and fun also focuses on the role of a skipper on a powerboat.
How can I take this course?
The practical course is taught on our 7m Ribcraft rib , Swiss T. The classroom course is taught in the Mendez Marine Office.
NB. Please contact us if you need an Advanced PB Exam organised to Commercially Endorse this qualification. The Exam fee is £193.00, the Commercial Endorsement fee is £35.00. These fees are NOT included in the course fees.

|Pre-course experience||Candidates should be competent to the standard of Intermediate Powerboat.|
|Assumed knowledge||Candidates should have a thorough knowledge of navigation and chart work to the level of Coastal/Yachtmaster shore based certificate and it is strongly recommended to hold a 1st aid certificate and a VHF operators licence.|

|Course content|| Preparation: passage planning, meteorology, safety and the skipper’s responsibilities.
Boat handling and manoeuvres: high speed handling, pilotage by day and night, emergency situations including search patterns, awareness of chart plotters and Radar.

Next Step: Commercial Endorsement
The Advanced Powerboat Certificate can be Commercially Endorsed on completion of an exam to gain a Certificate of Competence. However, if you have completed a CoC for your RYA Yachtmaster Offshore you do not need to take the CoC for the Advanced Powerboat.
The exam is 1, long, day – 9am to 8pm minimum. Maximum number of students on a CoC is 3. We only offer a CoC between September and April otherwise a full course will run until the early hours of the morning due to the night exercises. Students who complete the RYA Advanced Powerboat course with us are offered a discounted rib hire fee of £75 pp plus fuel for the exam day. Fuel can be split between the number of students taking the exam. Students who have not trained with us will be charged £150pp rib hire fee plus fuel. The exam fee and Commercial Endorsement fee is NOT included in the cost of the RYA Advanced Powerboat course or rib hire fee.View all upcoming dates
