The RYA Advanced Powerboat course is aimed at the more experienced powerboat handler. Run over 2 days and an evening (night exercise), the RYA Advanced Powerboat course as well as being challenging and fun also focuses on the role of a skipper on a powerboat.
How can I take this course?
|Pre-course experience||Candidates should be competent to the standard of Intermediate Powerboat.|
|Assumed knowledge||Candidates should have a thorough knowledge of navigation and chart work to the level of Coastal/Yachtmaster shore based certificate and it is strongly recommended to hold a 1st aid certificate and a VHF operators certificate.|
|Minimum duration||2 days|
|Minimum age||17 years|
|Course content|| Preparation: passage planning, meteorology, safety and the skipper’s responsibilities.
Boat handling and manoeuvres: high speed handling, pilotage by day and night, emergency situations including search patterns, awareness of chart plotters and Radar.
|Ability after the course||To be able to drive a planing powerboat safely by day and night in tidal coastal waters with which the candidate may be familiar.|
