If the worst ever happened at sea and you had to abandon your boat, would you know what to do? The RYA MCA Sea Survival training course assumes the worst case scenario: that you have to abandon your yacht or ship. The RYA Sea Survival course is designed to provide the participant with a basic understanding of what to do in an emergency at sea. It is a well-proven fact that, in the event of an emergency at sea, people with training are more likely to survive.  The course equips students with a grounding in core safety and survival techniques with some practical, hands-on demonstrations.

Sea Survival Training is aimed at leisure yachtsmen and power-boaters as well as paid crew on vessels up to 3000GT. The RYA / MCA Sea Survival course is very popular among leisure and professional sailors and power-boaters.   The RYA Sea Survival course is one of the requirements for anyone who would like to commercially endorse their MCA / RYA Yachtmaster or MCA / RYA Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Competence. The Sea Survival Course can be used as day 1 of the ISAF/World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival Course, which is required by offshore race crews competing in events such as the RORC Fastnet, AZAB, ARC, RBI and Sydney Hobart race.

Every yachtsman (power or sail) should attend this one-day course. It is not only EDUCATIONAL, but GREAT FUN and will raise your awareness of the value of being prepared in the event that unthinkable happens.

The emphasis of the RYA Sea Survival course is on using life-rafts and the day includes a two-hour practical session in the pool, learning how to inflate, climb into, upright and survive in a life-raft. The course also covers a wide range of other survival issues, including helicopter rescue, immersion in cold water, and life jackets, as well as an outdoor practical session firing a live flare.  Students are encouraged to bring along their own wet weather gear and lifejacket, however this is provided if needed. The reason we ask you to wear the real kit is in order to experience first hand the problems of entering and assisting the entrance of others, into an inflated and uncooperative liferaft whilst fully kitted out. This is a really hands on course that is taught by an experienced Sea Survival instructor.

Price includes hire of wet weather gear and life jacket.

We hope you never need to use the skills gained on this course, but strongly believe that if the worst ever happened and yours and your crew’s lives depended on it, this training will prove invaluable and will help to preserve life.
