Mile Building Trips

‘Mendez Marine’ recognise, and understand, the difficulties faced by students who need to keep their boat handling skills fresh and have the opportunity to build miles and complete, the required, skippered passages to continue through the RYA Motor Cruising Scheme.

To reduce fuel and time constraints we are not offering ‘residential’ mile builders so have put a scheme together so students can build a few miles and obtain their 60 mile “along the rhumb line” passages (depending on numbers on board) plus a few night hours depending on the time of year.

Each day would cover a minimum of 120 miles.  There would be 2 skippered passages available for attendees to log and possibly some night hours.

Depending on the weather and tides trips would cover
Hamble –> Chichester –> Weymouth  OR
Hamble –> Chichester –> Eastbourne.
Stop for food and return

The aim of each trip is to assist you to build miles and enhance existing skills. There will be opportunities to complete a passage plan and, to a small extent, a pilotage plan with some watch keeping.   There will also be opportunities to practice boat handling skills and navigation skills whilst coming in and out of port during the day and evening / night.

Each mile building trip will have an experienced instructor on hand to assist and polish skills where necessary.

Each candidate will plan and skipper their own qualifying leg(s) of 60nm+ and will claim the ‘skippered passages’ and benefit from the total milage covered.

Maximum number of students will be 2.

Skippered passages and fuel split between the students – if only 1 booked then they get both passages but pay all the fuel.

What’s included:

• On board meals and snacks
• Wet Weather clothing and Lifejackets (you will have to bring appropriate footwear such as deck shoes/boots)

Please Note.

Safety is our paramount concern so therefore adverse weather and or sea conditions may mean that the planned itinerary will need to be amended/shortened or postponed.  We cannot guarantee the mileage that will be achieved or the skippered passages.  The instructor on board has total authority in relation to the viability of planned passages; ultimately deciding whether they are safe to go ahead.
