Up-skilling your theory during the off season!

The autumn and winter months will soon be upon us. For some, the boating season is nearly over. Why not use this time to refresh old skills and learn new ones. Mendez Marine are running a series of refresher courses and upskilling courses throughout the off season. These are in addition to our schedule of RYA classroom courses: navigation, VHF, First Aid etc.

• Rope & Rope-work (No pre-requisite)
• Advanced Passage Planning and Pilotage (must hold RYA Day Skipper theory cert)
• RYA Day Skipper Theory Refresher (must hold RYA Day Skipper theory cert)
• RYA Yachtmaster Theory Refresher (must hold RYA Yachtmaster theory cert)
• RYA VHF/SRC Refresher (must hold VHF/SRC cert)

Our refresher and upskilling courses are non-certificated. Some are general interest and self help.

Rope & Rope-work course.

• learn about the properties of various ropes and there uses
• learn a few new knots
• learn to whip frayed rope ends
• learn how to splice soft eyes onto ropes to create your own mooring lines or towing bridles

You even get to take away the results of your efforts.

Advanced Passage Planning & Pilotage course.

The course is in two parts, you can choose to do just one, the theory, or both. The second part is practical on water over a day and a night.

• learn about different passage planning techniques – including secondary ports
• Learn about different Pilotage plan options
• learn about night-navigation techniques
• learn about navigation using RADAR – turning point, position fixing etc.

The Advanced Passage planning & Pilotage course is designed to replace the obsolete RYA Advanced Pilotage course. This course is aimed at those boaters currently holding the RYA Day Skipper Theory certificate who want to improve their navigation skills. This course is also well suited to those who wish to progress on to complete the RYA Yachtmaster Theory course.

These courses are run on weekdays, weekends and evening.

Our new classroom facility is now up and running in Deacons House, Deacons Marina, Bridge Road Swanwick. It is now our primary shore-based training facility for all RYA Theory and one day support courses. It is a great learning environment, we look forward to welcoming our students to this great facility.

Whether you are new to boating or looking to expand your knowledge or experience we are here to help you all. Whatever RYA training course you choose to do with us, from a VHF course through to a Yachtmaster® course or even just some basic boating skills either on the water or shore based, you can be assured of receiving professional training in a fun and friendly environment and on high quality equipment.
