Spring Actually  a great time to catch up on some of that learning that you 'meant' to do last year. To that end we have a couple of great offers to temp you:

Sea Survival + First Aid

Sea Survival - One of the best courses that we do, a great day of learning, we spend the morning in the class room, then troop off to the local pool to find out just what's in the liferaft and how to use it!

First Aid - The RYA First Aid course, does not only cover the basics elements of First Aid, but adds in the 'boaty' elements of hypothermia and how to use the techniques in a confined space.

Sea Survival - Course Synopsis
If you are one of the unlucky few, and your boat sank, or you needed to abandon ship, would you know how to help yourself and the rest of the crew survive?
• Do you really know how to use the liferaft?
• How to right it if it capsizes?
• Do you know what it contains?
Your chances of survival at sea will be greatly increased if you understand how to use the liferaft and it's equipment and how to help yourself. No previous experience is necessary or required.
This comprehensive 1-day course for both pleasure and commercial sailors could save your life. It will give you the essential practical skills and theoretical knowledge of sea survival to react effectively to an emergency abandonment with a liferaft and includes an invaluable 2-hour practical session in a swimming pool. The course could save your life and that of the other people on board your vessel. It is a prerequisite for the RYA / MCA commercial endorsement and is for both pleasure and commercial boat users.
The course is very practically orientated and includes 2 hours in an indoor pool during the afternoon practising launching, boarding and using a liferaft, righting a capsized liferaft, using your lifejacket and helping injured persons

First Aid - Course Synopsis
This one-day course covers all the usual first aid subjects, but from a boating perspective. It is aimed at anyone who goes afloat, whether on inland waters, rivers, estuaries or on cross channel passages.
In a medical emergency a little first aid knowledge and immediate action can save lives, especially in remote locations. This course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to support skippers.

The subjects specific to boating include:

  • The recovery position in a confined space
  • CPR, including the drowning protocol
  • Cold shock and hypothermia from immersion and/or exposure
  • Seasickness and dehydration
  • Medical assistance or advice by VHF
  • Helicopter rescue

It fulfils the requirements for: Professional skippers of small craft working within 60 miles of a safe haven, including Boatmaster. The course is recommended by the MCA and HSE.
