The RYA Sea Survival course is designed to provide the participant with a basic understanding of what to do in an emergency at sea.
This course is also a pre-requisite for those who are looking to gain their commercial endorsement to operate as a professional skipper.
The course covers the use of life rafts, survival equipment and survival techniques should you be unlucky enough to have to abandon your vessel. Other topics covered include the use of life jackets, flares, medical aspects of sea survival and search and rescue techniques.
Being properly trained in the use of survival equipment could help save your life.
The RYA Sea Survival course includes a practical session in a indoor swimming pool and students are encouraged to experience first hand the problems of entering an inflated and uncooperative life raft while fully kitted out in waterproofs and an inflated life jacket.
Course topics include:
- Life rafts and the equipment they contain
- Survival techniques
- The design of life jackets
- Medical aspects of sea survival
- Search and rescue techniques
To get the most from the course, participants are requested to bring their own wet weather gear and life jackets so that they can get the "feel" for what it would be like in real life. However, we can provide wet weather gear and life jackets at additional cost if required.
