Domestic Arrangements

What to expect...

Being on the water in a power driven craft is an exciting and challenging pastime. The prime aim of our motor cruising and powerboat courses at whatever level is to enhance your enjoyment, safety and education. Whether you are new to boating or more experienced your instructor will take time to find out what you expect from the course and endeavour to meet those expectations.

With the exception of Helmsman all our Motorcruising courses (and Advanced Powerboat) have a certain amount of night hours, therefore finishing times vary dependant on the season.

Clothing...

We recommend you bring with you warm clothing ie. thin thermal layers, fleece, gloves, hat as well as sunglasses and sunblock. Clothes that are quick drying are preferable to jeans. Footwear is important so deck shoes or non-slip trainers with non marking soles. Basically come prepared for the British climate!

Wet weather gear and sleeping bags...

Good quality wet weather gear is important and if you don’t have your own you can use ours free of charge. If you have by prior agreement arranged to stay onboard (motor cruising courses) we can supply sleeping bags if you dont have one or you could bring a duvet with you.

Food and drink...

On Motor cruising courses the fees include food and drink for the course except the evening meals. If you have any specific dietary requirements, please let us know. However within the confines of a vessel at sea we will do our best to cater for allergies/intolerences vegetarians etc. For obvious reasons there is a strict no alcohol policy at sea.

Safety...

Your personal safety is of paramount importance to us. You will receive a full safety brief before all courses, so please always follow the instructors requests. The environment you are entering is very different from that ashore so it’s important that safe thinking and practices are adopted by all. We all need to look after ourselves and each other. All required safety equipment is onboard each vessel and you are very welcome to bring your own equipment such as lifejackets should you have them.

Cancellation Policy & Insurance...

Please read the terms and conditions contained within the booking form.

Exam Candidates

Emphasis on an exam preparation course will be on polishing your strengths and developing your weaker areas during the week. We will also ensure that you are aware of the standards required to successfully pass your exam. The examiner will join the boat on the last day and the exams will normally continue through until late that night.

Please remember to bring your log book, passport photo, First Aid certificate and VHF radio license. You can pay the exam fee by cheque or credit card.

And Finally...

We all wish you a fantastic time whilst with Mendez Marine. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have on: +44 (0)1489 588977   - Office hours or +44  (0)7985 954260 out of hours or by completing our form here.
