Many students go straight on to Level 2, this is perfectly ok for beginners, but we would recommend Powerboat Level 1 as a natural start for the more hesitant.

| Course content |
Preparation: launching and recovery, safety equipment, pre-start checks, personal buoyancy.
Boat handling and manoeuvres: starting and stopping, use of kill cord, steering controls, securing to a buoy, leaving and coming alongside, being towed.
Theory and background: IRPCS, ropework, awareness of other water users |
The certificate for 8-11 year olds will be endorsed as follows:
“The holder should only use a powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult on board the craft.”
The certificate for 12 - 16 year olds will be endorsed as follows:
“The holder should only use a powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult.”
